Stand and Deliver

delivery truck

Rather unconsciously, at the beginning of the year I decided I was done with the current state of my cluttered, overflowing inbox. My solution – unsubscribe.

It was a little difficult deciding which emails to to get rid of and which to keep. During the last year, I was probably a little overly enthusiastic and subscribed to everyone and anyone interesting or promising, seemingly bursting with with ideas and inspiration. (more…)

Beating Holiday Stress – Just Breathe

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

woman relaxing in front of the fireplace, working on her laptop

How often do you wish for more hours in the day? Beating the clock can seem like an endless challenge. For most of us, feeling overwhelmed and constantly rushed has become an uncomfortable, business as usual.

A long time believer in multi-tasking, I would often be working on one thing and my mind would already be planning the next. It worked to some extent, I often got a lot done.

The problem was, even when I successfully finished all the tasks on my list, I never really felt any relief. What I did feel was hurried, panicked and like I never accomplished enough.

I love the holidays, it’s my favorite time of year. However, added social and family obligations combined with time off from work and the stress of not enough hours can really start to get serious. (more…)

How to Rock at Being of Service

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

survey showing great customer service

I recently had great experiences with some very small businesses (fellow freelance and entrepreneurs really). The people I worked with really impressed me, not just with the service they provided but with the way they provide it.

Because of the great personal service I received, I’m a satisfied customer who will bring them referrals as well as my own repeat business. And isn’t that the slam dunk we all strive for? Because those are the keys to keeping your business alive and constantly growing. (more…)

Holiday Downtime – Online or Off?

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

laptop computer near a Christmas tree

Lately, I’ve been reading about different ways other entrepreneurs are preparing for the holiday season this year. Some are taking online sabbaticals; not answering or even saving emails between certain dates in November and December, taking a break from their blog or just taking a large block of time off altogether.

At first, this really surprised me. Not answering or saving email?!?! Neglecting your blog for months? But after more thought, although I don’t think I can apply this to my own life right now, I get it. (more…)

End of Summer Wrap Up

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

The end of summer makes me really, really happy. As the weather gets cooler, days a little shorter and leaves start to fall from the trees, my soul is truly happy.

Finally – Fall!

Maybe it’s from nervous and excited memories of back to school shopping and starting new classes or just my love of getting back in to sweaters and boots, I love fall.
(I’m from Washington State, all this humidity and intense heat just makes me uncomfortable!)

So in the tradition and geeky love of all things fall/back to school, here’s my end of summer wrap up: (more…)

The Redesign Process – Tranquil Hearts

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

design tools

Susan Wright, founder of Tranquil Hearts, is one of those dream clients everyone hopes for. Easy to communicate and work with, she knows what she wants and what will not work for her and is so laid back and positive, the process of building her initial web site could not have been a more smooth and happy experience. Months later, speaking to Susan about her business and web site, I jumped at the chance to work with her further on redesigning the site to better communicate who Susan is and what her work is all about. Women Who Inspire

Women who inspire

I love discovering people who do extraordinary things. Over the last year or so , I’ve discovered some amazing, powerful, brave women and I’m incredibly grateful. I’ve been really been touched by the work they do and what they stand for and I really wanted to share and celebrate them in some way. I’m inspired not only by their acts but by their hearts and minds. (more…)

How I spent my Thanksgiving Vacation

Monday, November 30th, 2009

It’s always seemed kind of weird to me how the Thanksgiving break is much longer than other holidays, even Christmas which seems like the larger occasion (unless you are one of those people that saves up all your vacation days and asks for time off in the middle of the year for 2 weeks at Christmas before anyone else is even thinking about it and then makes all your co-workers furious. That’s not you, right?) (more…)

A Warm Welcome

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

So sorry about that last post – a post without a pin-up? Shame on me!
Here’s one for the cold winter evenings coming up.
Another beautiful Gil Elvgren called “A Warm Welcome”

So far so good with the re-design – I may have actually found some good images already!

Thank you for all the good karma!
