I’ve written several times about all the great resources online for web designers; free tutorials, videos, blogs, I love them all! But there are definitely times when I really want the convenience and comfort of a bound, paper book to read and carry with me. (Maybe I’m an old fashioned girl…) With so many books on web design out these days, I don’t always know which ones will make the best investment. As much as I love to read, spending time and money on a terrible book invokes the same anger and disappointment as walking out of the theatre after seeing a terrible movie – I want those hours and dollars back!

Luckily, my time and hard earned cash has been extremely well spent over the past few weeks on Bullet Proof Design by Dan Cederholm. (more…)

It’s tricky business, planning and designing a great web site when you’re doing it on your own. You want to stand out in the crowd, generate lots of traffic and most importantly, successfully represent and sell your product or service. I think for most, your web site feels personal as well. You’re taking a big leap, putting your self out there and shouting to world, “Here I am – look, over here, this is awesome!”

Choosing Colors for Design

I’m always excited when I start on a new design project about experimenting with colors. It’s definitely an important element, the right colors and images can help you communicate more effectively and can make the site. For some projects, I’ll be given an existing logo or images that will point me in a certain direction but I’ve also worked with pretty much a blank slate, nothing but ideas to run with. (more…)
